Something New About You

Thursday, October 10

Dr. Ashley Riley offers an entertaining, interactive workshop that focuses on the physical and emotional changes of adolescence.

After eight years and 25 class meetings, we’ve took our beloved Puberty. Seriously? class to the next level, by partnering with the acclaimed national puberty educators at Girlology, to create Something New…

Something New About You is, like it’s predecessor, a fun, fast-paced class  designed for 8-11 year-old girls and a trusted adult. It includes teaching, interactivity, and lots of time for questions, answers, and open discussion. These ages are a guideline, but not a requirement. If you think this class would be beneficial for you, we’d love to see you there!

Some of our goals for the class are to:

  • Start talking to each other! Discussing adolescence and sexuality can be hard. We make it easier by jump-starting the conversation in class, so you can continue it at home.
  • Give good, up-to-date information in fun, dynamic setting. We include activities to help make things more fun and less awkward.
  • Promote a healthy self-image. We want to help, teach, and empower young women for their futures.
  • Create a comfortable, supportive environment to talk about issues facing young girls.

Some of the topics we cover are:

  • Growth & Development
  • Bras & Bra Shopping
  • Hygiene & Hair Management
  • Nutrition & Growth
  • Menstruation & Menstrual Hygiene
  • Respect for Self & Others
  • Moods & Emotions
  • Internet Safety & Curiosity

The cost of the class is $80 per Girl/Adult pair for Kids Plus families, and $100 per Girl/Adult pair for other members of the community. This ticket includes the in-person class, and a full membership to the Girlology app for one year.

Praise for the Original Class

“It was awesome! I feel so great knowing my daughter has the knowledge to handle awkward situations. You are such an amazing group of care providers! Keep up the great work!”

“Just wanted to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT… for a fantastic class I was able to attend with my daughter! The class is done in a fun, informative, and exciting way, and I am thankful I was able to attend.”

“We can’t recommend this enough! Our class was informative, funny, and helped open lines of communication between my daughter and I. Big, big thumbs up!”

“Awesome event! We enjoyed it tremendously!”

“I just want to thank the staff for putting on such a great presentation. My daughter was very upset that she had to come to this seminar. I know she was very at ease, after being there a short period of time. I liked so many things. I have had a lot of experience attending and putting together seminars. The staff was very knowledgable, and confident on the topic. The facility was very nice and appropriate. I loved the opening “feel good” exercises. The topics were clear and consistent, which I believe really kept the interest of the young girls.”

“I want to say my daughter and I had a wonderful time last night at the class! The providers were entertaining and presented sensitive information in a way my 9-year-old really could understand and relate to. I’m grateful that the topics covered were not just related to the functions of the body, but covered everything from privacy to body image. I think those issues get overlooked too often. I can rest easy knowing that my daughter is armed with the knowledge to take care of herself and embrace the changes happening to her body.”

“This class was great! I’ve already told 3 of my daughter’s friends moms to look for a future class. It opened dialog up with my daughter on our ride home that she would not have done if I tried to discuss this with her myself.”

“The information was awesome! Thank you for this wonderful gift!”
