Brooke Kulasa grew up, and still lives, in Belle Vernon, PA. Her Mom is a nurse (right here at Kids Plus!) and her Dad is a medical salesman, so she thinks she was always destined to work in medicine.
Her brother, who was diagnosed with autism and Scheuermann’s disease at a very young age, also influenced her decision to become a PA. Seeing him persevere through so many surgeries, therapies, and medications to become the great young man that he is inspired her to become someone who could one day help kids like her brother.
Brooke earned both her BS and her MS in Seton Hill University’s Physician Assistant Program. Throughout her clinical rotations, she thought she would work in orthopedics or women’s health, but when she came to work as a Medical Assistant at Kids Plus while studying for her board exams, she fell in love with both pediatrics and Kids Plus and never looked back.
When she’s not working at Kids Plus, her favorite thing to do is ride horses, which she’s been doing since she was 8 years old. She rides almost every day, and competes — she was secretary of Seton Hill’s NCAA equestrian team while in college — all spring and summer long. She’s currently having a blast with her horse, Turtle.
Brooke also loves volunteering, going to the gym, hiking, and fishing (especially deep-sea fishing with her dad). Her favorite places to “play” in Pittsburgh are Cedar Creek Park in Belle Vernon and Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg, where she loves taking her two Chihuaua/Yorkies, Sammi and Duke, for walks.
As a child, her favorite toys were her American Girl Doll horses. She played with them almost every day, until her Mom finally let her start riding lessons and playing with real horses instead!
