Ed Helm has been a Pittsburgher all his life, leaving only for a short time to attend Lock Haven University.
During his undergrad years, Ed discovered passions for helping kids (he got a degree in education) and kayaking (the Susquehanna River was literally across the street).
After graduation, he returned to Pittsburgh and worked at Pressley Ridge Home Places program, before dabbling in Therapeutic Staff Support work and settling in youth ministry for a few years.
Ed later earned an MSW from Capella University, with internship rotations at McKeesport and UPMC East hospitals, which helped him discover the field of medical social work.
As a Kids Plus Resource and Counseling Coordinator, Ed works with our clinical team to provide emotional support, care coordination, resource coordination, and help in navigating medical, educational, behavioral health, and mental health systems for our patients and families.
As a child, Ed’s favorite toys were frisbees and street hockey gear. Every weekend and most evenings, he could be found playing one or the other (or both) with his friends.
As an adult, his favorite places to “play” in Pittsburgh are Phipps Conservatory and the arcade and duckpin alley at Coop DeVille.
In addition to kayaking, Ed’s hobbies include photography and gardening. He also loves taking his family for seasonal pick-your-own-fruit events at Triple B Farms.
Ed lives in Jeannette with his wife, dog, and two daughters.
