Dr. Kate Belser comes from a family of doctors. Her mother, father, grandfather, and several other family members are all doctors, and her brother is currently in a pediatric residency program. It’s safe to say that medicine is in her blood, and in her heart.
Born and raised in Philadelphia — don’t hold that against her! — Dr. Belser was an active and creative child. She was always on the go, playing tennis, skiing, playing piano, plus acting and singing in several musicals.
Dr. Belser earned a B.S. in Neurobiology at Cornell University, where she also played collegiate tennis and worked with a non-profit organization in Africa. After college, she consulted for two non-profits and lived for a while in Ghana.
After med school at Penn State University, Dr. Belser completed her residency at UPMC Children’s Hospital, where she became an active and passionate member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She currently serves as the EC of Communications for the Section on Pediatrics Trainees, and was recently was elected to serve as the Early Career Physician Board Member for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the AAP.
While attending medical school, Dr. Belser met her husband in the sweetest place on Earth — Hershey, Pennsylvania! They moved to Pittsburgh together for residency, were married in 2017, and just welcomed the newest member of their family: Milton, a Bernedoodle puppy!
Dr. Belser’s professional passions are in mental health and well-being. She loves developmental pediatrics, and nothing inspires her more than seeing her patients thrive.
When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Belser loves spending time with family and friends, which are what she values most in life. She also loves traveling — she hit 30 countries by age 30, and hopes to hit all 50 states by 50! — and baking and getting creative with both photography and interior decorating.
Her favorite places to “play” in Pittsburgh are out in nature — especially for runs through Frick Park — and exploring the city’s amazing restaurant scene. Her favorite spots include Morcilla, Poulet Bleu, Tako, The Twisted Frenchman, Butterjoint — and Millie’s for ice cream!
As a child, Dr. Belser’s favorite toys were Barbies, Monopoly, and anything that could inspire some good imaginary play.
