Dr. Xing Luu was born in Beijing, China. At age 5, she moved to the Heilongjiang province to live with her grandparents, while her parents came to the US for graduate school. When she was 7, she joined them in Houston, Texas, where they and her younger brother still live today.
Dr. Luu majored in Bioengineering, and met her husband in an Intro to Chemistry class, at Cornell University. She enjoyed her time on the east coast, especially the beauty of the changing of the seasons, which she’s looking forward to experience again now that she’s settled in Pittsburgh.
After college, Dr. Luu attended University of Texas at Houston McGovern Medical School and completed her residency at Kaiser Permanente Northern California in Oakland, CA.
She chose pediatrics because she enjoys spending time with kids and seeing them grow, and because she values the chance to build relationships with families.
In her spare time, Dr. Luu enjoys yoga, board games (her current favorites are Wingspan and Hanabi), skiing (she’s still a beginner), and learning to play guitar.
Her favorite places to “play” in Pittsburgh are Boba tea shops, exploring new restaurants, and the hiking trails in Frick and Schenley Parks.
Dr. Luu’s favorite childhood toys were her Tamagotchi and her Diabolo, which her grandpa taught her to play. Her favorite moments of culture shock after moving to the US were sleepover parties and trick-or-treating on Halloween (Strangers give you candy? Wow!).
