Michael Durkin grew up on a small family farm in Hampton Township. His favorite toys as a child were his bike, his tennis racquet, his basketball, and his baseball glove; he was never happier than when he was throwing a ball, draining 3s, smacking forehands, or tearing around the farm on his bike.
Mike graduated from Hampton High School, then earned a BS in Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington. After dabbling in education and coaching for a short time, Mike decided to becoming a Physician Assistant, a position he had no previous knowledge of, after getting sutures from a Physician Assistant in the ER!
So Mike went back to school and earned a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from Chatham University. After working at a pediatric/family practice in Cumberland, Maryland for six years, he decided to return to Pittsburgh to serve the community he grew up in and focus exclusively on pediatrics.
Mike lives in Hampton, and, in his spare time, helps to maintain the family farm he grew up on. When he’s not seeing patients or working on the farm, Mike loves sports, playing cards, watching movies at the theater (with a giant tub of popcorn!), and supporting all the local sports teams.
Mike’s favorite places to “play” in Pittsburgh are North Park, the Fox Chapel Golf Club, and the North Shore. He also enjoys going to the Pittsburgh Zoo, where he’s a big fan of the elephants, tigers, and polar bears.
